Communications and Engagement Lead at Sporting Lagos

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Schedule: Full-time

What would it take to harness the transformative power of football to bring together people from all walks of life and create economic opportunities at scale?

That’s the question we are trying to answer with Sporting Lagos – a modern football club to incubate the next generation of Nigeria’s sporting talent. We are a Lagos-based football club in the Nigeria National League (NNL), the second division of Nigerian club football, with ambitions to be promoted to the First Division (NPFL).

About the role

We are looking for someone to help design and lead communication and engagement with the various stakeholders that make up a football club. From the fans, which are the heart of any club, the players, who entertain and represent us and to the general public who we need to support the project beyond us.

We are looking for someone with a bit of original thinking that knows how to use modern tools like Telegram, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram etc. A person who knows when to deliver a 400 world blog post, or a 3-word tweet. They have good ideas on how to work with specialized teams of photographers and videographers.

We are building  a world-class club and how we are perceived would depend on you.

Job Requirements

  • You LOVE football.
  • You have 4+ years of experience in a marketing or communications role.
  • You are up to date on industry trends and able to stay ahead of the curve.
  • You have extensive knowledge and understanding of social media communications.
  • You have proven excellent organizational and project management skills and your ability to meet deadlines is unparalleled.
  • Your analytic and strategic thinking are topnotch.
  • You have outstanding collaborative skills and you can also execute efficiently on your own.
  • Your written and verbal communications skills are exceptional.
  • You love to travel.


As a communications manager at Sporting Lagos, you will be responsible for both internal and external communications.

  1. Develop and implement marketing and communications campaigns and strategies and handle engagement and monitor their success.
  2. Develop and edit communication materials like newsletters, social media, blogs, press releases and similar marketing materials in order to promote the company’s products and services.
  3. Define key performance indicators for each communications channel which will indicate a campaign’s level of success.
  4. Develop, plan, implement and monitor the company’s internal communication strategy that will foster team morale.
  5. Oversee the creation of marketing and communications collateral to ensure that it is consistent with the organization’s brand.
  6. Represent the organization at events and press conferences.
  7. Reach out to influencers, media and beyond in order to arrange story placement on a national and global level.
  8. Ensure communications consistency among different stakeholders.
  9. Communicate brand values to both internal and external customers and stakeholders.
  10. Prepare detailed media activity reports.


Stage 1: Application

  4. Attach a written piece you wrote that you are most proud of.

Stage 2: Interview

If you pass the first stage, you will be given a case study to work on and be invited for a technical interview.

  1. During the interview, you will give a detailed description of your thought process for the case study.
  2. Finally, you will have a final interview with the leadership team  to see if you are the best fit.
